  3. Ask for several samples from the same file and material. Keep the orientation and documented setup the same. Label each sample to keep the record tied to the part.
  4. Check every sample against the same written rules. Record pass or reject. Do not change the rule after you see the result.
  5. Review the candidate’s documentation for setup, calibration, alerts, cleaning, and maintenance. For example, Prusa’s First Layer Calibration article applies to the listed Original Prusa i3 models. It says its process adjusts nozzle-to-print-surface distance until extruded plastic adheres and is slightly squished. This is not a universal procedure for all printers (Prusa).
  6. Find the support route. Also find catalog entries or identifiers for the candidate’s replaceable parts.
  7. Save the samples, settings record, inspection result, documentation links, and unresolved questions. Keep them as the purchase evidence.

This test does not prove uptime, lifetime, or business return. It shows if the submitted evidence passes your job definition. A seller may change the material, file, orientation, or settings between samples. If so, record the change. Do not treat that set as one repeatability run.

Control limit: An enclosure is not automatically a verified emission control. NIOSH says filtered recirculation should be evaluated. How do you compare uptime, repeatability, material path, support, and parts?

Do not score these areas until each one has evidence. Uptime is not a speed claim. Define the machine state you need for the planned work. Then ask what records and documents a candidate can supply.
